The University of Macau (UM) held their scholarship and Rector's honorary grant ceremony last week where a total of 400 students were offered grants and academic honours.
The ceremony in total granted 267 scholarships, amounting to 3.45 million patacas from 29 donating institutions as well as personal donations, to those eligible.
According to the deputy rector, Rui Martins, the university granted not only 267 scholarships this year, but also granted scholarships to 2008/2009 freshmen in order to praise their excellence in academic performances.
In which, there were included 101 undergraduate students, 57 masters students and 13 doctorate students.
He applauded those eligible as being not only excellent in academic performance, but also actively participating in extracurricular activities.
The vice rector also gave warm congratulations and hoped that the students would continue to keep up the good performances.
The aim of the scholarships and rector honours is to encourage and support students who obtain excellent academic performances and actively participate in extracurricular activities to motivate them and spread the message of diligent study to other students.
The university also hoped various social sectors would continue supporting the school's development as well as donating more scholarships.
