On Friday Thai police found the drowned body of holiday-maker Lam Cai Keong from Macau just off of a beach in Pattaya, Thailand.
Police said they presumed the 24 year old man had been dead for about three hours when he was finally found, according to the Pattaya Daily News.
His girlfriend, twenty year old Cheang Kam Leng, who was also at the beach with Mr Lam was distraught by the news.
A tour guide, Panu Ruensakol told police that Mr Lam had come to Pattaya, located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok, with a group of 19 Chinese tourists. The group arrived on August 26 and had been staying at the All Seasons hotel and were scheduled to leave today.
The group had been for a day tour to Hard Tawaen on Koh Larn. While they were enjoying some time at the beach Ms Cheang became alarmed when at 2pm she could not find Mr Lam, the Daily News reported.  She alerted the tour guide, Mr Panu that her boyfriend had been missing since 11.00am, while she was sleeping on the deckchair on the beach.
The sea rescue was notified and after five hours of searching Mr Lam's submerged body was found just off the beach in a designated swimming area.
Police assume that Mr Lam had suffered a cramp after entering the sea and drowned. However, the body will be sent to the forensic laboratory to establish the cause of death, police said.
