Visitor arrivals totalled 2,488,697 last month, an increase of 11.8 percent over the same period last year, with visitors from the mainland accounting for almost half of the total, figures from the Statistic and Census Service released yesterday showed. Mainland visitors reached 1,482,367, and visitors from Southeast Asia accounted for 141,655 of the total, a surge of 29.8 percent and 47.2 percent, respectively, while those from Hong Kong decreased by 18.5 percent to 620,538. Same-day visitors accounted for 52.9 percent of the total arrivals, at 1,317,388. The majority of the visitors were from the mainland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, which accounted for 59.6 percent, 24.9 percent and 5.7 percent of the total, respectively. Among mainland visitors, or 41.1 percent of the total travelled to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme. In the first four months of this month, visitor arrivals reached 9,995,006, up by 16.3 percent year-on-year. Visitors from the mainland and Southeast Asia rose by 24.4 percent and 58.4 percent, respectively, while those from Hong Kong decreased by 2.8 percent. Furthermore, same-day visitors shared 52.7 percent of the total arrivals, at 5,268,959. Analysing by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea went up by 7.4 percent over the first four months of last year to 3,136,372. Among them, 2,823,390 arrived at the Outer Harbour, an increase of 3.5 percent, with 57.5 percent from Hong Kong and 23.8 percent from the mainland. Visitor arrivals by land also went up by 20.9 percent to 6,291,446. Visitors arriving through the Border Gate increased by 14.4 percent to 5,954,819, the majority of which were visitors from the mainland and Hong Kong, at 79.1 percent and 14.5 percent, respectively. In addition, visitor arrivals by air totalled 567,188, up by 20.6 percent over the first four months of last year. Visitors arriving at the Macau International Airport rose by 19.5 percent to 556,626, with those from Taiwan accounting for 35.5 percent, Southeast Asia 29.7 percent and the mainland China 21.8 percent, as the major users. |
