Twenty years on, Macau’s civilians did not forget those who sacrificed their lives fighting for democracy in Tiananmen Square. A candlelight vigil continued to be held in Senado Square last night in memory of the young students and intellectuals.

The number of child abuse cases in Macau has been on the rise over the past two years,
since the foundation of the Against Child Abuse (Macau) Association Child Protection
Centre. The number of calls to the association’s hotline has increased over the years,
as so has the number of cases to follow up on.

It seems as though everything is declining in Macau – the gross gaming revenue, total visitor spending, the gross fixed capital formation and merchandise exports. All of which are down between 12 and almost 50 percent in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period of 2008.
