Another four cases of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, commonly known as swine flu, have been confirmed in Macau. All four cases were importehttps://www.macaudailytimesnews.com/files/d, the health bureau said yesterday, bringing the total number up to 12. however, only one remains a local case.
although the number has risen and macau raised its alert level to code blue, no major activities have been suspended.
a six-year-old indian child who came back from australia, a 24-year-old woman from singapore and a 19 and 21-year-old students from the university of macau who returned from the uk and thailand, respectively, are the four new cases in macau.
the 19-year-old is said to have attended a dinner where a confirmed case of swine flu was also attending. the director of the health bureau yesterday said that some students had ignored the authorities pleads to avoid big gatherings and large crowds especially after returning from countries where the number of swine flu cases is high, such as that of australia and the uk.
as such, the health bureau is now urging the public to avoid large gatherings, and big activity organisers have to comply with regulations in order to keep the spread to a minimum.
the director of the bureau also urged locals to keep a good personal hygiene and avoid large crowds.
most indoor sporting centres have been closed in order to avoid a greater spread.
“Once we've analysed and looked at each sporting venue, we will slowing re-open them [to the public] again,” Jose Tavares, acting-director of the Sports Development Board (IDM) added yesterday.
