by Natalie Leung Four million bank notes with a face value of 20 patacas will be issued by the Bank of China's (BOC) Macau Branch in commemoration of the 29th Olympic Games that will be held in Beijing this August. The bank notes, which will be in the same colour (purple) as the other 20 pataca notes currently circulating in the market, will be available at all local BOC branches the day after the administrative regulation is published in the Official Gazette, whose date has yet to be confirmed. The news was announced by a spokesman of the Executive Council, Tong Chi Kin, during the press conference at the government headquarters yesterday. According to Mr Tong, one side of the note will be a printed picture of the Bank of China Building, the architecture representing the location of the torch relay of the ancient Olympic Games, as well as the emblem of the Beijing Olympic Games and a vertical line that reads "In Commemoration of the 29th Olympic Games" in both Chinese and Portuguese. The other side of the note will show a picture of the Beijing Olympic Stadium (also known as the "Bird's Nest"), Macau's Golden Lotus symbol, and the same bi-lingual print as on the right hand side. |
