Visitor arrivals dropped 3.5 percent in April PDF Print E-mail

The total number of visitor and non-resident arrivals was 2,500,042 for last month, while visitor arrivals totalled 1,867,204, down by 3.5 percent from April of last year, according to information from the Statistics and Census Services.
Analysed by place of residence, visitors from mainland China amounted to 897,335 or 48.1 percent of total visitor arrivals, a year-on-year decrease of 13.5 percent, with 342,458 travelling to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme, down significantly by 42.7 percent from April of last year that registered a total of 597,647 visitors using that particular scheme.
Visitors from Taiwan amounted to 116,335 and 31,968 from Malaysia, dropping 6.6 percent and 24.1 percent respectively.
Due to the Easter holidays, visitors from Hong Kong rose by 16.4 percent to 612,480, and those from Thailand (27,457), the Philippines (26,905) and Singapore (22,994) also increased by 5.6 percent, 4.5 percent and 23.3 percent respectively.
Also, same-day visitors accounted for 52.4 percent of the total visitor arrivals of 978.392, with 465,881 coming from the mainland.
The cumulative visitor arrivals totalled 7,321,374 in the first four months of this year, down by 8.1 percent year-on-year.
Visitors from mainland China (3,655,645) and Taiwan (430,195) decreased by 14 percent and 4.2 percent repectively, while those from Hong Kong (2,345,206), Japan (123,935) and Thailand (103,550) rose by 2.5 percent, 13.8 percent and 28.2 percent respectively.
In addition, same-day visitors accounted for 53.4 percent of the total visitor arrivals at 3,908,418.
Regarding the mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea totalled 3,058,305 in the first four months of this year, up by 2.3 percent year-on-year.
Visitors arriving at the Outer Harbour registered a decrease of 23.1 percent to 2,066,601, but those arriving at the Pac On temporary ferry terminal surged by 479.9 percent to 886,324.
In the first four months of this year, visitor arrivals by land dropped by 15.5 percent year-on-year to 3,740,943, while those arriving through the Border Gate totalled 3,471,003 and the majority were visitors from mainland China (75.6 percent) and Hong Kong (15.9 percent).
Visitor arrivals by air went down by 5.9 percent year-on-year to 522,126 in the first four months of this year and visitors arriving at the Macau International Airport decreased by 5.7 percent to 513,487, from Taiwan (38.7 percent), mainland China (23.3 percent), Thailand (8.5 percent) and Malaysia (8.2 percent).
