An off-duty police officer was sent to the prosecutions office yesterday afternoon for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol after having been injured in a car accident yesterday.
According to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP), at about 4:40 am the off-duty police officer was injured after crashing his scooter in Avenida de Amizade near Rua dos Pescadores in Areia Preta.
Traffic police were called to the scene and the injured officer was sent to the hospital where he was tested for blood alcohol.
The statement said the test found that the alleged officer had violated the drink driving regulation of the Road and Traffic Law.
The statement emphasised that PSP is a "highly disciplined force" and will not tolerate officers who breach the laws.
Apart from handling the matter based on the current regulations, the PSP said the alleged officer will also receive disciplinary action.
