The escalators which will be built between Calcada da Surpresa and Conde S. Januario Hospital is going to start constructing tomorrow and the duration is set to be around eight months.
Due to the construction work, the circular route of bus number H1 will also be adjusted during that  period.
According to the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT), two escalators and a metallic flyover which links them together will be constructed in order to create a safe, comfortable and convenient passageway between Rua F. do Amaral and Conde S. Januario Hospital.
The two escalators will also run 24-hours every day and other supplements such as energy saving, surveillance and anastatic buttons will be installed as well.
Apart from escalator installations, the stone stairs of the Calcada da Surpresa will also be rejuvenated.
