Due to the rainstorms upstream the Pearl River, which has caused an increase in the volume of water, it is expected that the floods will reach the coastal areas surrounding Macau in the coming days, the local Port Authority warned yesterday. The Port Authority remains in close contact with the entities responsible for the management of water resources in the mainland, in order to communicate the latest information on the floods in a timely manner to the various government departments, to take precautions and reduce the possible impact on coastal areas. Currently, the Customs Services, Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Fire Brigade, Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau and the Weather Bureau have already received information on the matter and are taking necessary measures, mainly in relation to the sewerage system and emergency assistance. The Port Authority is to monitor fluctuations in the levels of water in coastal areas 24 hours a day, and provide citizens with the latest information on floods due course. According to current data in the coming days, the lower areas of Macau may be flooded, due to higher levels of the tides. The Port Authority is urging locals to take necessary timely precautions. Moreover, the departments responsible for sewerage system will also take measures in a timely manner to ensure the flow of floods. The Port Authority and Customs will strengthen sea patrols, alerting fishing units who work at sea to anchor their boats in the inner harbour in order to take precautionary measures should floods arise. |
